Welcome to Rediscover District C
Welcome to the Rediscover District C effort.  RDC is dedicated to the revival of our district through the involvement of our residents, our council and our local government.  RDC was founded in 2006 and is committed to helping the residents who have returned and those who wish to return.  We are a 501c3 non-profit organization.  That enables us to use donations to fund tree planting and beautification projects and other efforts important to our community. We invite you to become part of this effort and help us rebuild our parish, our community and our homes
"Clean Sweep" campaign beginning

Ward G Constable Brian Reaney and Justice of the Peace Howard Luna announce that an ongoing “Clean Sweep” of Ward G is being conducted.  Due to a recent modification to the parish Litter ordinance, Constables can issue litter citations that are now going to be handled by the local Justice of the Peace.  Brian and I are taking a proactive approach to litter in Ward G.  We have been driving the streets, taking pictures and will be issuing courtesy warnings that give residents and businesses a 10 day grace period to bring their property into compliance.   Any non-residential type garbage must be removed by the property owner.  This includes construction and non-construction debris, tree branches and excessive grass clippings left in the street.     Properties not in compliance after the grace period will be issued a fine and a court date.  According to Reaney, people who chose not to pay the fine or contest the citation in court face possible additional fines or suspension of their driving license by the Office of Motor Vehicles.  Both Reaney and Luna hope that residents and businesses take the initiative to clean up their property rather than face getting citations.

Volunteers Help Plant Mailbox Flowers

Armed with a grant for the Greater New Orleans Foundation and help from the many Lutheran Church volunteers (in orange), the newly formed Karen Drive Homeowners Association planted flowers along the residents mail boxes.  This was a great opportunity to get old and new neighbors acquainted.  We need more projects like this.  If your organization would has some projects that they are interested in doing, please let us know.  We'll do what we can to make it happen.

RDC Adopt a Tree
Rediscover District C has completed the first phase of our replacement of the oak trees along Judge Perez Drive.  Together with neighbor volunteers, students from Chalmette High School, and local District C resident, Jerry Raynes (who provided the Bob Cat for the digging of the holes, we planted 17 oak trees in District C.  We have 3 more that will be planted near the entrance to Lexington Place Subdivision.  We have donations for 8 more trees but have delayed the planting until the cooler time of the year.  Watering the trees on a regular basis is a challenge particularly during the dry hot days of summer.

Originally planted by the Laurent and the Lagarde Families, the Live Oak
trees that grace Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette have enhanced the
thoroughfare and provided shade for our community's family oriented parade
route.

Residents and Business Owners can Adopt a Live Oak Tree for $150 or make
donations towards this beautification project. Proceeds will be used to
purchase 8 to 10 foot Live Oak Trees, water bags and stakes or tie downs.

All donations are tax deductible and can be made at any Gulf Coast Bank with
checks payable to Rediscover District C.  RDC is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) corporation.  For more information contact Howard Luna at 908-8880 or
